Description A-Train

A-Train, released onto the DOS operating system in 1992, has been regarded as one of the great classic management simulation games of its era. Developed by Japanese company Artdink, it is a total transportation tycoon simulator which tasks players with developing a city around a network of railroads. The objective of the game is to efficiently manage rail lines and facilitate economic progress throughout the city's various districts.

The game's flexibility in how you go about accomplishing this goal is what really sets it apart from other titles - while building and managing railways is the primary focus, players are also able to build power plants and structures, contribute to the cityscape, manage industry, and dabble in financial activities. The city itself can also be customized through zoning, where different districts can be monitored and governed in different ways.

The real challenge of A-Train lies in building a successful economical network, which can be affected by many factors such as rail passenger numbers and the size/cost of assets. To successfully keep up with the changing demands of the city, players must assess the needs of each area, come up with effective strategies to deliver profits, and be able to make quick financial decisions.

A-Train was released with several scenarios and prebuilt cities, encouraging players to start from the ground up while enjoying the game's endearing aesthetics and open-ended gameplay. Additionally, users were given the option to continue to expand/improve existing maps. The game was also compatible with an external block map editor, allowing players to bring their visions to life and come up with fresh new ways to build a prosperous city.

This classic DOS title will undoubtedly remain a fan favorite for years to come, providing an incredibly deep and complex transportation simulation experience. A-Train is an absolute must-have for anyone who enjoys strategy games and managing complex economical networks.
